Divas and Dorks Creator Dishes: Femininity without Sacrifice

DivasandDorksAt some point in your life, have you ever felt like you had to choose between being smart and being beautiful? Don’t lie! Well perhaps you didn’t have to choose, but maybe you had to play up one aspect more than the other?

I recently read an article about how young girls aren’t interested in STEM ( Science Technology Engineering and Math) careers and feel that they must chosse between femininity and science. You can read the article here

However, my discussion Christen Rochon demonstrates how being a feminine woman who’s into technology is a compatible combination.

Not only is Christen from Detroit, but she’s also the creator and editor-in-chief of DivasandDorks.com, a cool website that fuses everything fashionable, infamous, and entertaining about technology. I’ll be honest, until recently, I hadn’t had much interaction with women who were interested in technology without being labeled a “dork.” But now, I’m discovering women who are into technology, who are fashionable smart, beautiful, and who add value to the world.

I enjoyed this discussion with Christen because she discloses:

  • Why we don’t have to sacrifice femininity for science and technology.
  • How her feminine charm helps her to get what she wants.
  • The importance of being groomed for success.
  • How she gets red carpet access.
  • Why adding value is the best way to develop relationships and GET PAID!
  • How to turn who you are and what you love into a full time gig.

3 Ways to Boost your Feminine Appeal Instantly

I saw a person, who from behind, walked like a man, but had a woman-like frame and stature.  Naturally, I couldn’t help but wonder, if it were a man or a woman? It was really difficult to tell, and I could not decipher from the salt and pepper dread-locked coif either.

From behind, very androgynous. Then, I got a side glimpse, clearly a woman.

That slight observation made me think, for those of us who want to increase our feminine appeal here are three (3) ways to boost our allure instantly.

Switch-  Oftentimes, women who walk with an appealing sway are admonished for being “fast,” but really, possessing feminine movement is an aspect of womanhood that we should embrace because it distinguishes us from men. There’s no need to be coy or feel bad about lady-like movements.  After observing the woman, it reinforced my perception that women usually flow along, while men power along.

As I mentioned in my post Develop a Feminine and Gracious Gait, ”switching” should not be staccato: short, quick, fast. Instead, it should be a skill or tool used to improve our feminine form.  It’s not something that society says we should do, but rather, it’s an innate female element, attributable to our hormones and skeletal differences.

Smile- A woman’s smile can be considered the sexiest curve on our body. Naturally, it softens us, makes us more beautiful, and overall makes us appear to be an enjoyable person. I see so many of us who frown and look uneasy, “tight face-ed.” And, might I add, frowning makes us ugly, appearing bitter. Smile more to stay youthful, vibrant looking, and overall to reduce stress. Check out my post on how to get brighter smile.

Unfold your arms- I’m definitely guilty of this one. However, I have observed that folding arms, especially, when standing alone can make us appear uptight, self-conscious, closed. Sometimes, folding our arms is simply more comfortable. I do fold my arms especially when sitting because I’m fairly tall and desks and chairs are not ergonomically fitting for me. However, when I catch myself in the act, I make an effort to lower my arms.

I encourage you to put one or all three of these suggestions to the test, and report back your observations.

Develop a Feminine & Gracious Gait

Ever notice how show horses have a gracious gait? Perhaps, it’s because they know they are being watched. Some breeds of horses have a natural gait, while others receive special training. Like horses, who learn to gallop, to pace, to trot, and to canter to display the very best of themselves, we too can train ourselves to develop a gracious gait and feminine movement to show the very best of ourselves.

The way a woman walks, her stance, and her posture are a part of her feminine allure and appeal. Walking in heels is not required for a gracious gait; however, heels help to elongate our legs and it strengthens the calf. Wearing heels also helps us to be cognizant of our overall appearance. Note: If you wear heels often, be sure to stretch afterwards. If you do not stretch, you’ll run the risk of shortening the calf muscles that may end up looking like chicken breasts.

One can learn to have a gracious walk and feminine comportment. For others, it’s a fortunate gift. If you do not know how to walk in heels or how to produce feminine movement, then remember that practice makes perfect. To achieve a gracious gait it’s best to think light and to walk in smaller steps. A feminine gait should not be swift and hurried. Instead, it should promote a rhythmic and harmonious movement between leg and foot, not knee and foot. Think legato, fluid, refined, and controlled.

A gracious gait should exude freedom and stride. However, oftentimes, we do not know how our bodies move; but, it’s something I suggest we women should pay more attention to. We typically adopt the gait of the women with whom we interact the most, however stilted or unbecoming it may be.

Be aware that other people, men in particular, take notice of our movements.  They can appreciate a woman’s sensual, and inviting gait. Check this video for social proof.  Note: This comedic video contains inappropriate language and sexual content.
