Breakfast of Champions: Monkey Milk

No time for a sit down meal? Well, if you’re like me then you must get some nourishment in the morning. Try this monkey milk shake (not too fond of the name, but, oh well).

Ever since I tried it a about a month ago, I’ve made one at least twice a week since then. It tastes like a peanut butter banana shake. Its super easy to make, it’s very delicious, and it’s extremely satisfying!

monkey milk shake

Ingredients for one (1) serving of monkey shake:

  • 3-4 ice cubes
  • 1 banana (Note: A frozen banana is more refreshing.)
  • 1/2c Almond milk (I’ve also used water. It doesn’t really make a difference to me.)
  • 2 tbsp peanut butter
  • 1 tbsp Agave Nectar (optional)
  • 2 tbsp protein hemp powder (optional).  I add this for fiber and protein intake. It’s the speckles that makes it look like an oreo shake.
  • 1tsp  maca root powder (optional). I add this because it increases fertility, energy, and endurance. Overall, it helps support the immune system. Also, it supposedly makes the rump rounder::wink.
Nutritional Information: This monkey milk shake contains about 400 calories, about 12 grams of dietary fiber, and about 14 grams of protein.

D.I.Y. Bling Friendship Bracelet

D.I.Y Friendship Bracelet

I’ve been wanting to take a break from the rigors of my day to do something crafty and creative. Rather than painting photo frames to take up wall space, I found this friendship thread in the crafty isle at Walmart and decided to give the D.I.Y. friendship bracelet a go.

This project is perfect for the wellness theme because it required patience, coordination, and vision.

I watched this video tutorial to learn how to create the inverse chevron pattern.

D.I.Y Friendship Bracelet

This was my first try and besides an uneven width, which is no problem because it makes for more authenticity, I’d say I did a darn dandie job with the doodad!

Make It Stop

book

It seems like ever since I started tweeting, my brain won’t slow down, and it’s not a good thing. I cannot seem to concentrate. I just want to make it stop because it’s been stealing my time. With all the content that’s being created, and because the life of a tweet is about seven (7) seconds, things just hold my attention like they used to.

I used to be able to read for hours, feet curled up and all comfy. So, I decided to put myself to the test. I wanted to see if I could read this book for 45 minutes, without interruption. Without interrupting myself that is.

To minimize the digital urge, I decided to pick up a book that I got from a bookstore in Seattle, instead of reading from my Kindle Fire.

The results:  Unfortunately, I was not able to dedicate 45 minutes. 20 minutes passed before I submitted. The good news is that after 10 minutes or so, I did return to reading for another 20 minutes.

What’s been stealing your time lately?

Life Class with Oprah

Has it happened to you? You know when you see a celeb and you’re star struck. Once in 2000, when I saw Mary J. Blige, I felt like I wanted to cry when she appeared on stage. I was so close I could see her skin texture. The same reaction almost happened at Life class with Oprah. When she appeared on stage, expectantly, her team motioned the audience to stand and cheer, but when she actually walked out, I felt a little something in my heart.

It was like “joy, joy, joy, joy, down in my heart…where?! Down in my heart, down in my heart…”

I shared the opportunity to witness both Oprah and Bishop T. D. Jakes during the Oprah’s Life Class Tour with fellow STL blogger GlamaziniThe theme? Live your life on purpose!

Oprah stressed that as human beings, we are meant to be the “highest truest, expression of ourselves.” Hmmph, let that meditate awhile.

What I appreciated most was that Oprah, when the tapping was done, spoke to the audience about her intentions regarding the OWN Network. She addressed the poor media flack; but, what she said was that she’s “trying to do something different. We’re searching for things in all the wrong places.” Simply put, she got tired of interviewing celebs and doing make-overs.

I can absolutely relate because I try to provide substance through the MotorCityMoxie blog. To that extent, I’ve incorporated a few video interviews that I’m excited to share with you. You can view them here, here, and here.

At this juncture, I am designing my future and my lifestyle with intention, not simply letting it happen. So, I have to be careful about what I do, jobs I apply for, and decisions I make because as TD Jake says… “we’re often pushed into functioning for something that’s not our highest and best use.”

So, the intention with the interviews is to expose MCM readers, including me, because “to ignite passion, we gotta be exposed! There are more options than our contemporary situation.”

My favorite quotes from life class with Oprah:

  • “The ego can’t go where the spirit wants to take you.”
  • “On point people are attractive. People who are lost are hard to live with.”
  • “Don’t play a role for which you haven’t been scripted!”…Preach preachaaa!
  • “Get in an environment that’s conducive to where you want to be. Greatness is contagious!”
Hmmm, hmmm, hmmm….yaaaaasssssss! I can tell that Bishop Jakes reads a lot!

I want to hear from you! Have you figured out your purpose?

5 Reasons to Try Living Foods

living foods1. Raw, living food fuels our bodies for optimal performance by providing mental clarity and energy.

2. Raw, living foods slow the aging process, and in several cases, reverses it.

3. You can eat as much as you want without the guilt.

4.  More oxygen is available in raw, uncooked, living foods. I read that cancer cannot exist in highly oxygenated environments.

5. Living foods are full of enzymes which serve as catalysts for every metabolic reaction in our bodies. My favorite raw food chef, Ani Phyo, teaches that “without these enzymes, there can be no cell division, energy production or brain activity.”

Check out 70 year old Annette Larkins, a raw food vegan.

Now, I know “black don’t crack;” but, even 70+ year old body builders don’t look this good in the face.

So what do you think? Valid?
