Weight Loss Prerequisites

My weight loss changed my life because it changed my perspective. The weight loss journey revealed to me that anything is possible, and that I could transform my body by training it and by nourishing it like a garden. What resulted from my weight loss experience was a mental transformation, a shift in my outlook on life, and an increased level of ownership regarding my appearance and my health. No longer did I blame my parents for demanding that I “eat everything on my plate.”

The wondrous part about our existence is that we have choice, free will. Can you imagine the amount of exasperation if your fate was fixed to remain trapped in a body that you detest? What would you do? The good news is that we don’t have to remain trapped because change is an option.  Unless one is currently disabled, then we must realize that we are only temporarily-abled, and we mustn’t take our ability to be active for granted.

One must chose to lose weight in order to reveal a better, healthier self. The only distinction between those of us who reach our weight loss goals and those who do not is this: there are those of us who put on our gumption hat to make it happen, and those who do not.

My current fitness inspiration, Gracyanne Barbosa, Brazilian Samba Dancer. Look at those legs!!

To obtain results, this thing has to be in your spirit. More significantly, however, three prerequisites must be satisfied before one can begin the weight loss transformation. Are you equipped with:

Vision?  “Vision is a picture of the future that produces passion.” You have to see the results before they manifest in your physique. My vision was and still is simple. I want to look good in a nice pair of jeans, heels, and a wife beater. No muffin top! And it’s doable because I have faith in my own capacity. I would also look at fitness models who had a similar shape and proportion as inspiration.

Knowledge? I knew it was possible for me to have the physique of my dreams, but, I didn’t know how. I had to avail myself of that knowledge. There is no secret to weight loss: eat less, exercise more. Honestly, exercise is not required for weight loss. However, it adds value because exercise speeds weight loss and allows us to train our bodies into transformation. Eventually, the body will submit to diligence and respond by transforming. When we know better, we must do better!

weight lossCommitment?  If we want the million dollar physique, then the million dollar commitment is required. When I want something bad enough I’ll make it happen. No excuses, just adjustments. During my weight loss journey, every day was an opportunity to bring me closer to my goal. So, I had to ensure my actions catapulted me towards my goal of a 2 lbs weekly weight loss, rather than swindle into a 1.5 lbs weight gain.

In his Taebo series, Billy Blanks asserts that “your legs are like car tires, you gotta make’em last.” The same is true for our bodies. We only have one, so we must nourish it, and make it last.

Be Good. Look Good. Do Better!

  1. Sweetheart I needed this word. You said somethings and I was just like she took the pages right out of my book. Thank you so much for being that extra little push that some of us needed.
